Epidemiology and Biostatistics Laboratory

The Epidemiology and Biostatistics Laboratory (LEB) was created in 1997 and since then has been dedicated to developing research projects with an emphasis on veterinary epidemiology.

The main areas of research are:

  1. Design and evaluation of monitoring and epidemiological surveillance systems for diseases in domestic and wild animalsUse of complex network analysis methodologies to study the spread of diseases in animal populationsUse of complex network analysis methodologies to study the spread of diseases in animal populations
  2. Use of complex network analysis methodologies to study the spread of diseases in animal populations
  3. Mathematical modeling of the spread of infectious diseases in animal populations to evaluate control, surveillance, and cost-benefit assessment strategies
  4. Use of geoprocessing and remote sensing techniques to improve animal health surveillance systems
  5. Use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in animal health programs
  6. Humane management and control of domestic animal populations

Since its creation, LEB has contributed to various public and private institutions, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Ministry of the Environment (IBAMA and ICMBio), Secretary of the Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics of the State of São Paulo, Pasteur Institute of São Paulo, Zoonosis Control Center of São Paulo, as well as veterinary services in different states such as Goiás, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso, Espírito Santo, Alagoas, etc.

Currently, LEB is part of the Collaborating Center in Economics of Animal Health in the Americas Region, which works in partnership with Kansas State University, Universidad Nacional Autonoma De México, University of Brasília, and Washington State University.
